Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 June 2026
The Community of Curious Minds ("we", "us") runs curious-minds.co. This policy explains what we collect when you use the site and what we do with it. We aim to collect as little as possible and never sell your data.
What we collect
- Account details — when you create a member account we store your email address, and (optionally) a display name and profile photo you provide. If you set a password, we store only a securely hashed version, never the password itself.
- Sign-in with Google — if you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name, email address, profile picture, and a stable account identifier with us, which we use to create or sign you into your account.
- Email sign-in codes — to log you in without a password we email a one-time code. We store a hashed code, its expiry, and the requesting IP address briefly, to verify the code and prevent abuse.
- Content you create — philosophy cards you submit, comments you post, and the cards you like or dislike. Your comments and approved cards are shown publicly alongside your display name and photo.
- Technical data — basic cookies needed to keep you signed in (see Cookies below), and standard analytics about page visits.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
- To show your profile, comments, cards, and contributions on the site.
- To let admins moderate cards and comments and keep the community healthy.
- To prevent spam and abuse (e.g. rate-limiting sign-in code requests).
- To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it.
Cookies
- Session cookie (
cm_user) — keeps you signed in during your visit. - "Remember me" cookie (
cm_remember) — keeps you signed in across visits and devices; cleared when you log out. - Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager to measure site usage.
You can clear cookies in your browser at any time; doing so will sign you out.
Third parties
We rely on a few trusted services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Google — sign-in (OAuth), Analytics, Tag Manager, and Fonts.
- Meetup — our event listings are synced from our public Meetup group, and "RSVP" links take you to Meetup.
- YouTube — podcast videos are embedded from YouTube.
- Hostinger — our website and database hosting.
Visibility of your contributions
Comments and approved cards are public and shown with your display name and photo. Cards you submit are visible only to you until an admin approves them. Ratings are shown only as totals, not tied to you publicly.
Retention & your choices
We keep your account information until you ask us to delete it. You can update your name, photo, and password on your account page. To delete your account and associated data, or to ask any privacy question, contact us through our community WhatsApp group or the contact options on our homepage. Deleting your account removes your profile, comments, ratings, and the cards you submitted.
Age
This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. You must be at least 18 to create an account, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone underage has given us their information, please contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site evolves; we'll update the date above when we do.
